AHRDA Programs

The Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy (AHRDS) is designed to expand the employment opportunities of Aboriginal people across Canada. Under this Strategy, Aboriginal organizations design and deliver employment programs and services best suited to meet the unique needs of their communities.

The AHRDS is designed to assist Aboriginal people to prepare for, find, and keep jobs.  All Aboriginal people, regardless of status or location, may access its programs and services. These include: labour market interventions; programs for youth, urban and Aboriginal persons living with disabilities; creation and maintenance of child care spaces (First Nations and Inuit Child Care), and capacity building for Agreement holders.

The North East Native Advancing Society is the AHRDA holder for northeast BC.  Under this strategy, NENAS delivers the following programs:

Aboriginal Youth Initiatives 
To help youth people make the transition into the labour market by providing skills, work experience and access to relevant labour market information.

Project Based Training
To provide on and off the job training for aboriginal persons who face serious difficulties in securing and maintaining employment.

Aboriginal Skills Development
To purchase occupational skills training courses that will develop basic and/or advanced skills.

Labour Market Partnerships
To facilitate partnerships of local resources, for the development of viable responses to long term community needs, and the coordinated application of necessary resources and expertise to meet the objective of community economic development, stabilization and adjustment.

Job Creation Partnerships
To provide aboriginal persons with work experience on projects developed in partnership with the community.

First Nations Child Care Initiative
To increase the supply of quality child care services for children with working or studying parents residing in First Nation communities.

Targeted Wage Subsidies
To assist individuals experiencing difficulty in finding work to benefit from on-the-job work experience.

Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities
To assist persons with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining and keeping employment or becoming self-employed

Employment Assistance Services
To provide unemployed individuals with services to help them find and keep work; services may include counselling, job search skills, job placement services and labour market information.

Trades & Apprenticeship Program
To assist individuals that are interested in pursuing long term employment in trades.

Skills Development Program – Non Trades
Intended to assist individuals who lack specific employment skills to increase their employability.

Confirmed Job Supplement
Intended to provide a supplement for essential work related items and short term training.

Self Employment Micro-Grant
Provides access to grants to support unemployed individuals in the development and start-up of a new business.
