ABORIGINAL CENTRE for LEADERSHIP and INNOVATION
NENAS’ Aboriginal Centre of Leadership and Innovation (ILC) was founded in the 2011 and hosted its Grand Opening in September of 2012. The Learning Centre was created to help meet the goals and aspirations of the Aboriginal clientele in the northeast region of British Columbia.
Acknowledgment and applause go out to the staff that forms the team to serve our clients on a daily basis. We are very fortunate to have such a high caliber, talented team of people who go the extra mile, because they truly care about the people they serve as we continue to move forward and create a positive future for the Aboriginal people of northeast British Columbia.
As a registered Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC (PCTIA), NENAS and Aboriginal Centre for Leadership and Innovation strives to deliver quality, relevant and effective Workplace Essential and Industry Specific Skill development in conjunction with Personal Development and Career Exploration as well as industry related safety certification to the Aboriginal population in northern BC. In addition to these outcomes Aboriginal Centre for Leadership and Innovation also provides academic upgrading and pre-college preparation along with drug and alcohol testing for industry safety regulations. In keeping with proven “Best Practices” it has been evident that the incorporation of aboriginal content, holistic teachings as well as utilizing local First Nations staff has ensured students are more successful in obtaining their training goals.
The Aboriginal Centre of Leadership and Innovation delivers a number of different programs to assist Aboriginal, Non-status, Inuit, and Metis individuals within the northeast BC.
- Heavy Equipment Operating (HEO) Program – Program delivery within the Fort St. John urban area and has a mobile unit that can be transported out to the surrounding communities. The HEO Program is Industry Training Authority (ITA) designated for Apprenticeship to Journeyman C or Q. Theory, Simulator and Practical Training on: Loader, Grader, Excavator, Rock Truck and Bull Dozer.
- Innovative Driver Education Academy (IDEA) – Program delivery within the Fort St. John urban area and has a mobile unit that can be transported out to the surrounding communities. This program assists individuals with obtaining driver’s licenses for the following: Class 1-7 (learners and novice).
- North East Aboriginal Trades Training (NEATT) – The NEATT Program is designed to train and prepare participants for entry into a trades career through a Pre-Apprenticeship and/or Apprenticeship Exploration.
- Aboriginal Training to Employment Program (ATEP) – The ATEP Pre-employment Essential Skills training program is funded through the Bladerunners Program through Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society (ACCESS) and is designed to prepare participants for entry into the labour force targeting the construction, mining, and oil industries.
