IDEA Innovative Driving Education Academy
IDEA is an ICBC certified driving academy training class 1, 2, &4 at all levels from basic to advanced, including the DriveWise 6 star approach to safe driving. Focusing on fuel economy, safety, defensive and cooperative driving.
Based in Fort Saint John, BC IDEA delivers training to the Urban population and remotely to communities in North East BC. Delivering training remotely in a ‘state of the art’ mobile training unit. The 40 foot mobile training unit houses the most up to date driving simulators, classroom performance system and fully trained instructors with Adult Education Instructor Diplomas.
Funding is available for clients who qualify.

Why should I take one of these programs?
The various programs will give you the knowledge, skill and confidence to operate a vehicle in the class you need. A driver’s license required for most every job in the North East of BC. IDEA makes the process an enjoyable one with success built in. The challenge may be high but the risk is very low- you are set up to succeed.
Who enrolls in these programs?
A typical program includes learners of ages 16-65 for Class 7L and 7(novice). A typical Class 4 to Class 1 program has ages 19-65. Learners are from all walks of life and levels of education. Some of the learners have not finished school and require assistance with the process; we gladly help with everyone’s needs.
What are the admission requirements?
Unemployed, underemployed (less than 20 hours per week average), Valid Social Insurance Number, resident of North East BC, will be working in North East BC, no ICBC restrictions, status # or proof of ancestry, picture ID if possible, and an updated resume we will help with.
Where are the programs offered?
The programs are offered at the Innovative Learning Center in Fort St. John and in communities served by NENAS in North East BC including: Daylu Dene Council, Fort Nelson First Nations, Prophet River First Nations, Halfway River First Nations, Blueberry River First Nations, Doig River First Nations, Fort St. John Urban, West Moberly First Nations, Saulteau First Nation, Chetwynd Urban, Dawson Creek Urban, Tumbler Ridge Urban.
How much does it cost?
Funding covers 100% of the cost once you are approved. Start the process by calling NENAS and filling out the required forms. Your information will be checked for eligibility and the approval process started.
Are there textbooks required?
Yes. Learn to drive smart for Class 7L and 7(novice) or Driving Commercial Vehicles for Class 1 to Class 4 are available for free at an ICBC motor vehicle branch office.
How do I register for a course?
Contact a NENAS office or your band office education coordinator to start the paperwork process for funding approval.
