Go Karts 4 Girls

“Go Karts For Girls” is an annual summer program and community race aimed at promoting female involvement in trades. It is presented by NENAS with partnership funding from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and BC Hydro. The program engages participants to develop skills that are traditionally seen as “male,” in a safe and respectful environment. Girls are exposed to new skills, possible future career options and new friendships.
The program is delivered by qualified instructors to small groups of Aboriginal girls between 11 and 14 years old. Team recruitment takes place in Fort St. John, Chetwynd/Moberly Lake, Dawson Creek, Hudson’s Hope and Fort Nelson. Each group is challenged to successfully build a community go kart to be featured in a community celebration and race off. The general public and sponsors are invited to attend and cheer on the girls. This unique project brings families and communities together to celebrate the successes of youth.
