We’re Hiring – Preschool Cook

Sas Natsadle Aboriginal Head Start is a welcoming and vibrant preschool program dedicated to nurturing the early development of children ages 3 to 5 years old. We are committed to providing a supportive, safe, and culturally rich environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive.

Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organized individual to join our team as a Preschool Cook. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious and delicious meals (breakfast and lunch) for up to 20 children in the morning and 20 children in the afternoon. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children, have a keen interest in healthy cooking, and bring a positive energy to our team. This position may also include classroom support, assisting with various activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Menu Development: Plan monthly menus in line with Canada Food Guide (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), ensuring nutritious and balanced meals.
  • Food Planning: Estimate food requirements and costs to ensure efficient meal preparation.
  • Grocery Shopping: Handle weekly shopping for groceries, adhering to the menu.
  • Meal Preparation: Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious breakfast and lunch for the children.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Follow FoodSafe and Northern Health Public Health Protection guidelines to ensure safe food practices.
  • Kitchen Management: Maintain kitchen operations, conduct regular inspections, and manage inventory.
  • Provide classroom support when needed, assisting teachers and engaging with the children in activities.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT: Experience working with and preparing meals for children aged 3 to 5 in a licensed preschool or daycare setting is a key component of this position

Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience working with children under 5 years of age.
  • Criminal Record Check (required).
  • Current Driver’s License (required).
  • Current FoodSafe Certificate (required).
  • Child Care Emergency First Aid course (an asset or willingness to require upon hire)
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and teachings (an asset).

As we work closely with local First Nation and Urban community members, preference will be given to individuals of Aboriginal ancestry.
